Shinjuku Station is the busiest station in Japan.
The uniquely shaped building in the center of the photo is Cocoon Tower.

The South Exit of Shinjuku Station is convenient for transferring to the JR and Odakyu Lines and the underground Keio Line.
Right in front of the South Exit is Koshu Kaido, which has three lanes in each direction. Koshu Kaido leads to Kofu in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Across Koshu Kaido from the South Exit is the New South Exit, a bus terminal station, Basta, where many buses arrive and depart daily.
Behind Basta is Times Square, which houses Takashimaya Department Store. The south side of the area, including Lumine, is a popular area for women, with many fashionable stores in a quiet neighborhood.
To the north is a large railroad bridge called the O-guard, which has long been a symbol of Shinjuku.
It separates Kabukicho, the downtown area to the east, from a cluster of office buildings known as the subcenter to the west.
On the west side of Shinjuku is the subcenter area, lined with huge towering buildings. The site used to be the Yodobashi Water Filtration Plant, and high-rise buildings were built on the land where it was relocated.
On the west side of Shinjuku Station, there is a bus stop and a large underground road that leads straight to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in the subcenter of the city.
